Thank you for this comprehensive overview! You answered many of my questions - specifically whether Unifi supports 5Ghz (no). Hopefully they'll add this feature soon.

I'm getting about 70 - 90 ms ping time from my apartment to an inside address at the remote site of the VPN. I get pretty much the same when I ping the outside address at the remote location, so the VPN isn't really adding any significant amount of latency. I believe the traffic goes from here in Indy to Chicago, and then back to Lebanon. Assuming that your traffic stays within the Lilongwe area that amount of latency is really too high. What's a traceroute show btw? Is there a particular hop where most of the latency is coming from?

What is your ping time Mr. garraux? I wonder what we can do to improve the connection between A18 and Tidziwe. 140ms is just too high. At least for now, it gets the job done. I guess with Umbiquiti, it will be our best shot.

I've been tasked with the exact same project and seem to be finding out exactly what you have already come accross. It will be cheaper to build my own. I've very interested in what you've done.

Thanks for your praise Jim!

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 is the new free version of Sharepoint, released a couple months ago. I've started to mess around with it - its really easy to go through the setup and get a basic site up to start learning with. The downside is that Sharepoint 2010 is 64-bit only (though it can run on a 64 bit copy of Vista or Win 7).

If you have a 64 bit system to use, I'd recommend checking out Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - http://tinyurl.com/2g8db77. If not, Windows Sharepoint Services 3 is still pretty capable, it's just not as easy to setup.

HI, hope all is well with you. Interesting blog, well done.

I would like to know more about Sharepoint, where would be a good place to start?

Thanks man. When I get back, I'm actually going to set up site-to-site vpn from my parent's house where my servers are to my apartment. I got a Netgear "open" router that's designed to take dd-wrt. It'll be my first time using dd-wrt, I researched it a fair amount though before deciding on the Netgear so I'm somewhat familiar with its capabilities. How much flash memory does the asus have?

We already have the DLink's here so we'll probably just make them work. I'm leaving this Friday so we don't have a whole lot of time left either. It takes forever to order and ship new hardware here. A server ordered a couple weeks before I left still isn't here (a month and a half later).
